Monumen Jalesveva Jayamahe (MONJAYA)
Hi friends, how are you? We hope you are okay.
Surabaya has a lot of icons that indicate the advantages and the
characteristics or the differences from each areas. But this time we
were interested to tell the biggest and tallest Surabaya fate icon.
You have already known about the
Statue of Liberty in New York. But don’t you know that Indonesia
precisely in Surabaya also has a statue like the
Statue of Liberty? Indonesian’s
Liberty Statue called MONJAYA,
Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument. Jalesveva Jayamahe is the motto of the Indonesian
Navy from Sansekerta language. Jalesveva Jayamahe means 'Marine We Jaya'.
Believe it or not MONJAYA is the second tallest
after the Liberty Statue. Monjaya located in the Headquarters
of
Armatim, North End Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia.
Monjaya is 31 meters tall statue that stands on top of a
building purposely built as high as 29 meters. So the total height of Monjaya
is 60 meters above sea level. This monument depicts a Navy officer fully
dressed facing towards the sea as the representative of the next generation with
confidence and determination to take the storm waves crashing and heading
direction had dreamed that the ideals of the Indonesian nation.
Monjaya built in
1990 that was designed by I Nyoman Nuarte. The building was inaugurated on
December 5, 1996 by the second President of Indonesia, Soeharto. Here's a few Monjaya
forming materials:
* Frame Vertical statue made of 9 mm multiplex.
* Frame made of steel concrete Bantu 8 mm.
* Las Brass Copper Splicing.
* Main Frame Leather Sculpture consists of a steel strip width of 5 cm and 2 cm thick.
* Formation Leather Texture with Las Draft Brass Statue.
* Leather Sculpture processed with acid green color Platina.

* Main Frame Leather Sculpture consists of a steel strip width of 5 cm and 2 cm thick.

Monjaya building consists of 5 floors. The first floor is
located in the basement cafeteria and gallery which contains miniature Monjaya,
foud court, and some military clothes are on display in the window. This place
sells some typical souvenirs of the military, such
as doreng textured
clothes.
The second floor is the main room to get into Monjaya. In front
of the entrance we will found some prismatic solar panels that
are used as the energy centers. When we entered we will meet the
receptionist, they are from the Indonesian Military, then there is a room
behind the receptionist that contains the beginning of the construction of this
monument, the initiator of the construction of the monument, and there is also
a display case filled with plaque and trophies that have been earned by the
ship's Navy.
The third floor is a room filled with ship photographs, ship
miniatures, and the helicopter miniatures owned by the Indonesian Navy.
Oh yeah, you are allowed to see and take some
pictures of it, but you may not touch it. On this floor we will also
found
the badges owned of each Marine Corps.
The
fourth floor is a room that contains only a small room. In this room we can
know who's Chief of Naval Staff in Surabaya. In this room we will found
the flags of each of the Marine Corps. The roof of the this
floor is half ball shaped painted with
the painting of the full of clouds sky.
The
fifth floor is the top floor. Where the Monjaya located. It’s a bit
scary in this location. But it will gone after we are able to see the whole scenery,
especially the ocean of Armatim Command Headquarters. From here you
can also see the blue sky which is so beautiful in close up.
Even from up there you can see the longest bridge in Indonesia, Suramadu.
Friends,
there is a giant gong made of copper the rest of the construction process Monjaya
sculpture in
front of the Monjaya building. The diameter of this gong is 6 meters and 2 tons weight.
The
Gong was named 'Kyai Tentrem' made for the inauguration Monjaya.
